2 lugl 1917 anni - Alexander Kerensky

Descrizione:

Alexander Kerensky was a moderate socialist lawyer and led the provisional government of Russia from July 2, 1917 to November 6, 1917 as the prime minister. After 1904, he joined the Socialist Revolutionary Party and defended revolutionaries in law for many years afterwards. He believed that Nicholas II had mislead the war, and thus, wanted him gone. After the first revolution of 1917, he was made the Vice Chairman of the St. Petersburg Soviet of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies and was made the Minister of Justice of the new provisional government. In these roles, he allowed equal rights to women, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of the press. In May, he was transferred to become the Minister of War and the Navy. Finally, he was made prime minister of the provisional government on July 2, 1917. During his time at the helm, he lost much support from the left for not instituting socialist ideals and for assuming dictatorial power. Thus, in the second revolution of 1917, he was unable to defend his provisional government. The start of his time as prime minister was very important to the revolution, for he was one of the reasons that there was a revolution in October. The opposition to him was one of the reasons that the provisional government was overthrown. Thus, the day he was made prime minister was very important to the revolution.
