Around this time, analog computers begin to transition towards digital computers. Electronic circuits, relays, capacitors, vacuum tubes replace mechanical gears and analog calculations become digital. Examples of new digital computers during this time include ENIAC, Z3, and Colossus. This transition was an important time period as it began many advances in the field of computing science, including strides towards the first ‘modern’ computer.
