In chapter two, Bruno and his family move to the new house which is called, "Out-With." Right from the start, Bruno despises it at Out-With. It is the opposite of his home in Berlin. Unlike his old home, his new home is very small, with only a couple floors and no places to explore. Unlike Berlin, Bruno's new house is dirty, and not welcoming at all. When they pulled up, all Bruno could think about was how awful it was. Bruno begins to think that moving to Out-With was a horrible idea, and he tries to tell anyone that will listen. Gretel, his sister, tries to be very mature and claims she likes it, but she really hates it there as well. Both Kids expected there to be other people to talk to and play with, but since Out-With is no place for children, they will be experiencing a very lonely couple years. As Bruno is trying to explore his new home, he comes across a window, and outside that window, is a bunch of "Other children." Bruno really wants to find out why these children are there, but fears a response from Mother if he asks.
