On September 17, 1862 the bloodiest war of the civil war happened. Both Generals McClellan and Robert E. Lee contributed in the war near Sharpsburg, Maryland. McClellan got lucky and was able to find out the plans of Lee seeing their strategy of splitting into 2 different groups. Now knowing this information McClellan attacked the larger half of the Lee’s army catching them off guard. The Union suffered 12,000 casualties while Lee suffered 14,000 casualties. Lee losing almost a fourth of his army, he was forced to retreat leaving the Union victorious.
