This election was held between Abraham Lincoln, Beckinridge, and Douglas. Lincoln had a total of 180 electoral votes, Beckinridge had 72, and Douglas had 51 electoral votes. This event helped lead to the civil war by Lincoln started his role as President with the idea to stop the spread of slavery, and to eventually lead to ending slavery. This divided the country even more.
