Throughout elementary school and middle school, I was placed in the highest math group at school. My academic success continued as I began to take harder classes, as I earned straight As throughout all four years of middle school (grades 5-8). Being able to balance other factors in my life (such as my social status and athletic activities) while gaining a sense of academic accomplishment made me feel confident and competent, especially in a classroom setting. It helped that I got affirmation from my peers and my parents: they were proud/impressed by my performance both inside and outside the classroom, which in turn led me to be more confident in myself.
