They used rich soil which allowed them to grow more crops. This meant less labor. Agriculture was the base of the economy. It was situated around the Huang He, or Yellow River. Main crops were a variety of cereals - namely wheat, millet, rice, and barley. Fruits, nuts, and vegetables were also grown as well.
