The result of the Battle of Yorktown was a decisive American victory, American and French forces combined to trap General Charles Cornwallis in Yorktown and after a few small skirmishes, he surrendered.
The Battle of Yorktown was significant because it was the last major battle of the revolutionary war, there were a few small fights here and there but after the surrender of General Cornwallis the British government wanted to end the war and they negotiated the terms of the Treaty of Paris.
The Battle of Yorktown had the effect of ending the Revolutionary War, as it was the last major battle and the surrender of General Cornwallis made Britain want to end the war, and so they did and the war ended with Britain having to recognize the U.S.'s independence as a sovereign nation.
