The Museum of Black Civilisations in Dakar, Senegal, was opened in 2018, with capacity for about 18,000 objects, alongside a clear demand for some of that space to be filled by items currently housed in European museums.

Opened on 6 December 2018, it is the realisation of the vision of Léopold Sédar Senghor, Senegal's first President, to create a museum that would represent the histories and contemporary cultures of Black people everywhere.
