mar 25, 1741 - The Foundling Hospital is opened

Description:

The Foundling Hospital in London by Thomas Coram in 1739 as a home for babies whose mothers were unable to care for them.

After 17 years of tireless campaigning, Thomas Coram receives the Royal Charter from King George II to establish the Foundling Hospital. Instrumental in helping Coram realise his vision were the artist William Hogarth and the composer George Frideric Handel.

25 March 1741
1741. On 25 March 1741 the first 30 babies, 18 boys and 12 girls, were admitted to the Foundling Hospital.
