Description:
The assembly adopts the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. This document stated that all men are equal under the law, and inspired the American Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen was drafted by George Mason in May 1776, but it wasn't until August of 1789 it was passed by France's National Assembly.
