Description:
Germany builds a barbed wire and concrete between East and West Berlin. The purpose of the wall was to keep Western fascists from entering East Germany and undermining the socialist state. It primarily served for stemming mass defections from East to West. The Russians began to drive the United States, Britain and France out of the city. In 1948, a Soviet blockade of West Berlin aimed to starve the western Allies out of the city.
