In Deaf education there is a good mix of mainstreaming and residential schools. Parents choose which method they want their children to learn with: oral, manual, or total communication. There is still much debate about which method is best. The Deaf community is still very strong and tight knit. They are proud of they culture. Also, Gallaudet currently has a Deaf president, Roberta J. Cordano.
