may 17, 1954 - Geneva Conference
Description:
After the defeat of the French, the Geneva conference would take place. Here, a North Vietnam led by Ho Chi Minh, and a South Vietnam led by Emperor Bao Dai, would be established. The merging of the two almost came to be, but a coup in South Vietnam overthrew the emperor and sabotaged the election plans. Regardless, the U.S. still backed South Vietnam.
