may 15, 1972 - Wisconsin v. Yoder

Description:

Jonas Yoder, Wallace Miller, and Adin Yuty were members of Conservative Amish Mennonite Church, they were prosecuted under a Wisconsin Law that require all children to attend public school until age 16. The parents did not want to send their children to school after the eighth grade, arguing that high school was against their religious beliefs. The Court held that individual's interests in the free exercise of religion under the First Amendment outweighed the State's interests in compelling school attendance.
