Description:
A Black man named Heman Marion Sweatt applied to the University of Texas Law School, Sweatt’s application was immediately declined due to his race. Theophilus Painter, the University’s President, explains that the Texas State Constitution prohibited integrated education. This became a U.S. Supreme Court case that successfully challenged the “separate but equal” doctrine.
