dec 30, 1945 - Albert in Prison*

Description:

‘When Goering was asked why he undertook all this assistance to the Jews and other victims of Nazi persecution he replied that he was completely disinterested in politics, that he loathed all oppression and tyranny, and that he was doing in some small way, everything in his power to atone for the evil and brutality of his brother and all the leaders of the Nazi regime.’

Albert never changed his mind about Hitler, never deviating from his initial conclusion that the man was a menace and his ideology repugnant: ‘He detested the Hitler crowd and foresaw a bitter end for Germany.’16 Albert believed in freedom and justice. Whether he thought that politicians could deliver a more civilised world is open to question. His anti-Nazism was not based on any strong party affiliations. He answered to a more timeless ethical agenda: ‘The things I did, I did because it was my humane and religious duty to do so.’

A report based on further questioning reeks of barely concealed contempt: ‘The results of the interrogation of Albert GOERING brother of the REICHSMARSCHALL Hermann, constitutes as clever a piece of “whitewash” as SAIC has ever seen. Albert GOERING’s lack of subtlety is matched only by the bulk of his obese brother. His career almost matches the rise of the Nazi Party.’
