Description:

A large battle in the American Civil War Southern Pennsylvania which occurred when Union General George G. Meade led an army of about 90,000 men to victory against General Confederate General Robert E. Lee's army of about 75,000. It is significant for being one of the war's most well-known battles due to its large size, high number of casualties, location in a northern state, and for President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The Battle of Gettysburg influenced and caused the Gettysburg Address since Lincoln's speech was based off of the battle. It also influenced Lee's surrender at Appomattox as it boosted the morale of the North and helped them take victory over the following battles.
