Roman fleet meets storm after rescuing remnants of Regulus’ Afrika Kore, only 80 survived out of 364 ships. 100k Romans and Italians drowned. Braving the waves in winter was to gamble with your life every time. Rome may have known how to war on water, but sailing was still a work in progress ships of the time, especially the less seaworthy galleys, kept in sight of land whenever possible.
