mar 3, 1865 - Freedmen's Bureau created

Description:

The Freedmen's Bureau was established by Congress in an attempt to assist the poor and former slaves. The Freedmen's Bureau was assigned the task to provide food, education, housing, and medical and legal assistance. In addition, the Freedmen's Bureau sought to provide land and find jobs for former slaves. The Freedmen's Bureau is significant because it helped change the lives of millions following the Civil War and prevent these individuals from starvation and other disasters. It also revealed that the efforts of the Civil War went beyond abolishing slavery to include assisting former enslaved people.
