Description:
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued by Lincoln following the Battle of Antietam. In this document, he stated that all enslaved persons in the rebellious states would be freed. This document is highly significant because it laid the foundation for the abolishment of slavery and future Amendment which would work towards civil rights. Furthermore, the Emancipation Proclamation changed the goal of the Civil War from preserving the Union to including abolishing slavery.
