Description:
This single day battle left 23,000 soldiers dead under Lincoln's order of "destroy rebel troops". General McClellan disobeyed the orders and let the rebels retreat a choice he would be fired over. This battled ultimatly lead to Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclomation although it would not become effective until the first of 1863.
