oct 15, 1950 - What next?
Description:
After MacArthur's success in pushing the communists back to the northern side of the 38th parallel, the question was where to go next. The US could either declare the UN mandate a success and withdraw their troops, or advance farther north. Truman was worried by threats made by Chinese officials warning the US not to come near their borders. MacArthur grew bold from his previous victory and insisted that China would not take action. The decision was made to attempt to reclaim the north in an attempt to create a "unified, independent, and democratic" Korea.
