3h 5min, jan 5, 1764 y - The Sugar Act
Description:
During this time, the British government passed the Sugar Act. American colonies imported molasses to make rum, and buying molasses from French and Dutch colonies is cheaper than buying from the British West Indies. The problem was, England wanted American colonists to buy from the British West Indies, so they put a tax on foreign molasses to force the American colonists to buy from the British. Another problem was that the British did not properly enforce the tax, so the Americans bribed the British officials and smuggled foreign molasses into the colonies, this way, they didn't have to buy molasses from the British. The changes if the new Sugar Act lowered tax on molasses by 50% from the British West Indies and tax was strictly enforced.
