20h 16min, nov 16, 1942 y - Battle of Buna-Gona
Description:
After the Empire of Japan dominated New Guinea, forces of Australia and the United States arrived on November 16, 1942 at the beaches of Buna and Gona occupied by Japan. On the island they fought hard, as did all similar races.
Initially, the terrestrial and climatic conditions of the area harmed the Allies and managed to make Japan successfully resist the attacks. But as the weeks passed, the Australians and Americans managed to advance and gain territory; They surrounded most of the Nipponese and crushed them quickly. At the end of December the Allied troops dominated several locations and by January 22, 1943, the Japanese had been definitively expelled from New Guinea.
