apr 6, 1917 - America Joins the War
Description:
In January of 1917, Germany sent the Zimmerman telegram to Mexico, which held a plan to attack the United States. In February, the Germans sent a U-boat, a German submarine used in WW1, from America to Britain, killing many Americans. In April, President Woodrow Wilson convinced America to join the war. When the war first began, America made known their policies of neutrality and isolation. Before entering the war, America traded with the nations involved in the war but wanted to maintain its neutrality.
The impact of entering the war lead to a quicker ending. The war was already evenly
matched between Germany, Britain, and France before America entered the war. The Germans had a chance at winning the war, but when America joined this changed. The Germans lost, and the victory went to Britain, France, and America.
