Towards the end of September, Sibley is pressured politically to defeat the Dakota quickly. Sibley and his troops goes Lone Tree Lake or mistakenly known as Wood Lake, where they set up a camp. The next morning, some of Sibley's soldiers came upon some Dakota Soldiers preparing to attack Sibley’s forces.
