jan 3, 1857 - Dredd Scott Decision. Dredd Scott had come to a free state with his master for several years. When he went back to the south he sued his owner because he said he was now a free man because he lived in a free state. The court ruled that even though slaves were citizens they could not sue so he could not press charges.
