Description:
The Allies had decided to invade Italy because Hitler's biggest ally was Italy and that an invasion of Italy would catch the axis powers by surprise.
During the invasion, Canada had contributed over 23 000 Canadians.
The invasion resulted in Mussolini becoming very unpopular and being sent to prison. A new government was created and then declared war on Germany.
