Description:

Son of Thierry of Flanders, Philip was a major Western noble. Baldwin IV's cousin. Had a say in succession crises. Arrived at Acre in 1177.
However, marriage of Baldwin's sister to William of Montferrat and their children meant Philip no longer in line to take the throne. William then died. Problem of succession getting worse and worse.
Declined to lead army to Egypt but who would take possession of Egypt if it was captured?
Philip proposed attack on north of Syria but Byz did not agree. Attack on Egypt was cancelled too.
Philip's crusade achieved nothing.
