oct 16, 1097 - Siege of Antioch
Description:
Governed by Seljuks. When Malik Shah died, his sons Duqaq and Ridwan won Damascus and Aleppo respectively. Antioch went to Ridwan's father in law Yagi-Siyan.
The crusaders were desperate for food. Alexios never made it to Antioch - relations between crusaders and Byzantines waning.
Duqaq and Ridwan were both neutralised despite crusaders being heavily outnumbered.
Bohemond communicated with a guard who agreed to let him in. Silently went in at night with 60 men and attacked. Crusaders triumphant. Agreen Bohemond should have the city.
Once inside, still had to gain citadel. Peter of Bartholemew found holy lance - lifted spirits of the crusader. Brilliant battle plan from Bohemond, execution from leaders + religious zeal lead to victory for the crusaders.
