On January 22, the priest Georgy Apollonovich Gapon led a group of protesters to the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. The protesters wanted reform in the government. Even though they were peacefully demonstrating, the czar's army still fired into the crowd. Hundreds were hurt and killed. The reaction to Bloody Sunday kick started the Revolution of 1905
