Description:
The Missouri Compromise buckled when more states wanted to join the union and destroy the balance it had created. This compromise was put in its place. California wanted to enter into the union as a free state and the south agreed to let that happen in turn for the Fugitive Slave Law that made northerners return runaway slaves to the south.
