In 1949, Newfoundland became a part of Canada. Before 1949 (when Newfoundland joined Canada), Newfoundland was a British Dominion from 1907 to 1949. But, some of the people that lived in Newfoundland were not very trusting of Canada when they first joined our country. Newfoundland was the 9th province to join Canada. They also joined Confederation in 1949.
