Description:
Led by General Ulysses S. Grant, his troops managed to gain 12 miles of land to engage with Confederate troops and it was considered to be the first big win for the Union. The battle was for the intention of trying to gain control over rivers and supply routes. Shortly after the Confederates surrendered, the Unions could now control the Columbia and Tennessee rivers.
