In 1978, they signed a new agreement, which added a commitment to work POPs. As part of this agreement, both countries have been monitoring atmospherictogether to rid the Great Lakes of persistent toxic chemicals, some of which are POPs. As part of this agreement, both countries have been monitoring atmospheric loadings of these chemicals to the Great Lakes since 1990.
