In the late 1800s many women saw what alcohol can do to men and prohibition movements sprang up all around the country. They were promoted religious groups that considered alcohol a path to darkness. The movement reached its peak in 1920 when congress ratified the 18th amendment. It banned the manufacture, transportation and sale of alcohol.
