20h 33min, nov 15, 1938 y - Albert meets Neubach in Paris

Description:

November 1938 by Albert that led to the second rendezvous between Albert and Neubach. This time they were both émigrés in Paris, one escaping for his life and the other for his dignity and peace of mind. “Göring here,” Albert began the conversation with his usual Prussian directness. Neubach was ‘speechless’ not only by the fact that Albert was calling out of the blue but that he had tracked him down in Paris. So Neubach responded, “Göring? How the hell did you get to Paris?” “With the train,” Albert quipped.[97]

When Neubach arrived at Café Colisée to meet Albert, he was surprised to be greeted by a melancholy man; not the poised and enigmatic character from his last encounter. It was not necessarily the turn in political events that was behind Albert’s depression but the fact that he was being forced to leave yet another country due to the incursion of his Nazi brother and his cronies. The news of Kristallnacht only deepened his depression. “How I envy you that you can stay here,” Albert abruptly declared. “What’s stopping you from doing the same?” Neubach enquired. “My name!” Albert simply said.[98]
