California would be a free state. Slave trade was illegal in Washington. The rest of the land gained from the Mexican War(Utah & New Mexico)would decide if they wanted slavery in their territory or not by voting...This is called Popular Sovereignty. a new fugative slave law was passed(afeected the whole country)
