Jul. 4th, 1863
Description:
The Battle of Vicksburg was a pivotal Union victory, as they snuck up the Mississippi and captured the Confederate fort at Vicksburg, Louisiana. They used the idea of the Anaconda Plan to cut off coastal trade, then snake up the river and surround the South. Upon capture, the South was then surrounded on all four sides, and defeat was looking inevitable.
