sep 14, 1901 - Teddy Roosevelt Presidency
Description:
Once elected, Roosevelt displayed his characteristic independence and unwillingness to buckle to the pressure of party bosses. On September 6th, McKinley got shot by a deranged anarchist (Leon Czolgosz) at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. He died eight days later and Roosevelt became the 26th president. He was the youngest president in the nation's history and brought youth to the White House. He had a domestic policy, including the promise to battle trusts or industrial combinations. He also had a foreign policy in which he wanted to bring the United States out of isolationism and own up to its responsibility as being a world power. Roosevelt was an early advocate of American entry into World War I, which broke out in Europe in 1914, and strongly criticized Wilson’s early policy of neutrality.
