jul 5, 1775 - Olive Branch Petition
Description:
July 5th, 1775. Seeing that tensions between the colonists and Britain were rising, the US Congress sent a document to King George in the hopes that they would be able to reach a compromise. They declared loyalty to the king and also wished to prevent any further hostilities toward the colonies. The Olive Branch Petition was rejected by King George III, claiming the colonies were rebelling.
