There was an emphasis on the length of education. It was believed that for a human being to have full rationality, they need to undergo a long period of education. This was because of the changing expectations for adults. Life became more complex and demanded more from people, specifically, in econimics and intellectual. So it was realized that children are not ready for life.
Education for boys became normal during their late teen years.
During this period, childhood was commercialized. New things were invented just to cater to children. For example, books, toys, and games.
