In Sacramento Valley California in early 1848, gold nuggets were discovered which sparked one of the most significant events in US history; The California Gold Rush. People traveled far and wide to San Francisco and surrounding areas in hope to become rich off gold. By 1849 the non-native population in California grew from less then one-thousand to over one-hundred thousand.
