aug 1, 1765 - The Sons of Liberty
Description:
The Sons of Liberty was a secret organization founded in August of 1765 whose goal was to intimidate the British stamp agents who collected the taxes. It was founded by Samuel Adams and John Hancock. They believed that Britain had no right to tax them since the colonists didn’t have any representation. Some of the group was made up of Boston shopkeepers, artisans and laborers. This led to the British repealing the Stamp Act and creating the Declaratory Act.
