Description:
The Union won the Battle of Gettysburg, which took place in Pennsylvania. General Lee had ordered a charge on the Cemetery Ridge, but the Confederate division led by Pickett was attacked by the Union army firing behind stone walls and General Lee had to withdraw his army. Gettysburg had a huge impact on the war because it was probably the most influential and important battle. It completely shifted the momentum of the war into the Union’s favor and also decimated the majority of the Confederate army. It was also the battle that the Confederacy had hoped to gain foreign recognition for defeat of the Union army, so it was a key battle for the Union to win.
