may 6, 1882 - Chinese Exclusion Act
Description:
Approved May 6th 1882. Outlawed labor immigration from China and added new provisions for Chinese immigrants already in the U.S. Nonlaborers were required to gain certification from the Chinese government but the definition of laborers excluded made immigration increasingly difficult. Congress extended this act another ten years in the form of the Geary Act.
