nov 11, 1793 - Eli Whitney & the Fugitive Slave Law

Description:

Eli Whitney patents the cotton gin, a machine that could take seeds out of cotton much faster than humans could. This made the cotton industry explode in profit, increasing the demand for slaves. Also the Fugitive Slave Law was passed, allowing slave owners to pursue runaway slaves into other states, and making it illegal to assist runaway slaves in any way.
