sep 3, 1939 - Battle of the Atlantic
Description:
This was an ongoing battle for control of the Atlantic Ocean. This was vital for both the Allied and Axis powers. Control of the Atlantic for the Allies meant that the United States could bring over food, supplies, and soldiers to Britain en masse. Control for the Axis powers meant that they could stop the Allies from shipping anything over and essentially cripple their war efforts. The Allies ended up winning this battle over the course of the war and this proved instrumental in their ultimate win over the Axis.
