WWI started because of many causes. One of the causes being that big countries like Germany and Britain wanted to increase their empire by making more colonies around the world.The biggest cause for WW1 was when Archduke of Austria-Hungary Franz Ferdinand Was assassinated by a Serbian teenager. that set off a chain of events that lead all the big powers of the world to declare war on each other. There were two alliances, The triple alliance which consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy and Triple Entente which consisted of France, Britain, and Russia.
